Using your Digital Point and Shoot Camera

Class size: 3 to 4 people

Class length: 3 hours

Class Description

Who's in control of your camera? By the end of the class it'll be you. We will review basic camera operations and go over the important functions you need to get the most out of your camera. Included will be understanding Program mode, White Balance and Flash control. You'll learn the basic terminology of digital photography, how to use your camera and how to load your pictures on a computer. Please bring your camera, a fully charged battery, memory card and manual to class.

Using your Single Lens Reflex Digital Camera

Class size: 3 to 4 people

Class fee: $75

Class length 3 hours

Class Description

Who's in control of your new SLR camera?   This class is similar to the above class but it will focus on the SLR camera. We will review basic cameras operation and go over the important functions you need to get the most out of your camera.  You'll learn the key differences between film cameras and digital cameras as well as image management. Please bring your camera, memory card, manual and charged battery to class.

Portfolio Development 1

Class size: 2-4 people

Class fee: $95

Class length: 3 hours

Class Description

Learn to put your best foot forward. This class will be about developing unifying themes in your work. Most of the time will be spent looking at and discussing students work in terms of how well it "hangs" together, which images make the portfolio stronger in terms of theme and which weaken it. We'll review and discuss ways to improve and enhance your portfolio as well as the importance of sequencing. Please bring a group of 10-20 images that you feel work together thematically.

Working With and Improving Images in the Computer

Class size: 2-4 people

Class fee: $95 (plus $15 material fee)

Class length: 2 sessions, 2 hours each

Class Description

In this class we will review basic image editing using Photoshop and Windows. We will work with contrast, sharpening, color controls, layers and cropping. We will discuss file formats and image management. While this is a Photoshop course, much of what we cover will also work with Adobe Elements and other image editing software. Students should bring at least 5 photographic images on a compact disc and if you have one, a lap top loaded with the image editing software you use or plan to use. Students will be given a folder with handouts and there will be plenty of time for questions. There will be two computers available in the studio. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee and tea provided

Beyond the Basics (includes a field trip)

Class size: 4-6 people

Class fee: $95

Class length: 5 hours

Class Description 

This is a class for photographers who have a basic idea on how to use their digital cameras and want to get into the more advanced features. We'll go beyond aperture and shutter speed to discuss other basic camera settings and their effect on the image.  Specific questions on camera use, both technical and aesthetic are welcome. During the first part of class we'll discuss and review these issues and then we will go outdoors to a different location to shoot and work on our skills.

This class is an opportunity to enhance your creative vision by learning how to identify and make use of the basics of a good photograph through review and critical analysis of a wide range of images, including your own.  Photographers will develop a small portfolio of images that reflect their personal style.
